What types of lockouts do you handle?
Four core categories: residential (home and apartment lockouts, rekey after move, smart-lock installation), commercial (business and office lockouts, master key systems, access control), automotive (cars, trucks, fleets, transponders, key fobs), and storage units (facility tenant lockouts and operator turnover services). All four are covered by the same 24/7 emergency response number.
How fast can you respond to an emergency lockout?
Most emergency unlock calls within Sioux Falls receive a technician on-site within 30 minutes. Calls in the surrounding service area typically run 30 to 60 minutes depending on distance. We answer the phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at (605) 223-8100 — live human, no call tree.
Do you use non-destructive entry?
Yes. Non-destructive entry is the default standard on every job. We pick, bypass, or program our way in — we do not drill or damage hardware unless the lock is already compromised, the customer specifically requests destructive entry, or the situation absolutely demands it (and even then, only with explicit authorization).
Are your locksmiths licensed and insured?
Yes. South Dakota does not require state-level locksmith licensing, but Red Obsidian Security carries general liability insurance, conducts background checks on every technician, and trains personnel on legal authorization protocol — including verifying that the customer has lawful right of entry before any lock is opened. Certificates of insurance available on request.
Do you accept credit cards on the spot?
Yes. Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover are accepted on every call through Stripe — secure, immediate, no awkward conversation. Most regional locksmith competitors still require cash or check at the curb. We accept cards because that is how customers actually pay in 2026. Apple Pay and Google Pay also supported.
Can you handle smart locks, electronic deadbolts, and high-security hardware?
Yes. We work on smart locks (August, Yale, Schlage Encode, Kwikset Halo, and similar), electronic deadbolts, restricted-keyway high-security cylinders (Medeco, Mul-T-Lock, ASSA, BiLock), and commercial access-control hardware. If you have specific hardware in mind for a job, mention it when you call so we bring the right tools.
